Summary

Stone Barrington faces down danger on all sides in the latest thriller from perennial fan favorite Stuart Woods。

Stone Barrington is settling in for a stretch in New York when he receives news that demands immediate action。 An old family matter has unexpectedly resurfaced, and Stone must decamp to the craggy shores of Maine to address the issue head-on。

There, Stone finds that a dual-pronged threat is hiding in plain sight among the stately houses and exclusive coastal clubs, and the incursion isn't easily rebuffed。 These enemies have friends in high places, funds to spare, and a score to settle with Stone 。 。 。 and only the cleverest plot will draw them out into the open。 From luxuriously renovated homes to the choppy ocean waters, the pursuit can only lead to an explosive end。

Great BookThis story line was good because it was plausible。 Twins had very little character development but perhaps that was on purpose to make them seem more sinister。 Although common for Billy Faye, this is the first time that Stone colluded to permanently remove the twins as obstacles。 Recommended, a good read。

I have read all of the Stone series and this one is by far the most boring episode。 Stone is getting rather boring in his old age 😞

"Double Jeopardy" starts out with a good story premise that intrigues readers -- Eben and Enos Stone, twin brothers who murdered 3 family members Richard, his wife, children and some local women are up for parole。 The plot piques the reader's interests further: What will Stone brothers do once they're out from parole? Stone Barrington buys a house under his name around their release date to spoof them。 Rich middle-aged couple is placed in the newly bought house to sham the Stone twins。 Will this "Double Jeopardy" starts out with a good story premise that intrigues readers -- Eben and Enos Stone, twin brothers who murdered 3 family members Richard, his wife, children and some local women are up for parole。 The plot piques the reader's interests further: What will Stone brothers do once they're out from parole? Stone Barrington buys a house under his name around their release date to spoof them。 Rich middle-aged couple is placed in the newly bought house to sham the Stone twins。 Will this plan work? Like sitting ducks, Stone and Dino work together while anticipating Stone twins next move。 Meanwhile Carly Riggs, a law school student has been hit by one of the twins while having a picnic by the river。 Carly contacts Stone of the assailant who she's convinced is one of the twins。 Other characters are introduced it the story line: Smith Peterson, Ed Rawls, Primmy。 Primmy and Stone have some hot scenes together。 Ed Rawls and Stone duke it out in a strange scuffle with the twins in a '60s hippie-like free-love nudist colony。 They get them。 The story concludes with Stone and Primmy setting out to a flight abroad。 (How Casablanca-esque!)A look at the writing style。 Go to p。115 in the book:"Stone and Dino were crouched over the computer, trying to penetrate the website for yacht registrations, when stone, after a half dozen attempts and without a password, had a better idea。 t“I’ve got a better idea,” he said。t“Yeah, sure。 Remember what happened when you got your last idea, what, an hour ago?”t“We need the help of someone authorized, who can penetrate this website or, perhaps, do it the old-fashioned way and make a phone call。 We need a tame cop。” My Criticism: First sentence begins with a subjunctive "were," but "were," is best expressed in wishes than in the above sentence。 (Replace with simple past-tense。) First sentence has 2 “C” alliteration: Crouched and computer。 But 2 long accented words juxtaposed together do not ring a soothing rhythm。 The effect is percussive drums than light symbol in an orchestra band。 (Change to “S” and add in “B” alliteration: Stone and squatted; bid and breach。) “Penetrate” is too long a word in this context。 (Replace a shorter word。) “Attempts” and “Password” are long words that could be replaced by shorter words with the same intended meaning。 It’s more polite to say “idea,” than “better,” or pose a question to direct another person。 “Help of someone authorized,” has more words than necessary。 (Rid “of” preposition; relocate “authorized” before the noun “help。”) “Old-fashioned” is long and can be shortened。 My revised writing:Stone and Dino squatted over the computer in a bid to breach the yacht’s registering website。 After half-a-dozen flopping shots, Stone came up with a better idea。 t“I’ve got an idea,” Stone said。t“Yeah, sure。 What happened last time you had an idea?”t“We need an authorized help to crack this website or hinge on a dated method of a good phone call。 We need a tame cop。”Go to p。242 further down the reading:"Billy Hotchkiss was driving out toward the point when he came to the Stone twins’ place and stopped by the side of the road。 “Just a minute,” he said to the couple in his car。 “I want to find out what happened。” Billy felt a journalistic need to know everything, so he could report it the island community。 "My Criticism: The first sentence begins with a past progressive which can be changed to simple past-tense。 (Change tense function。) “Place” can be replaced by a specific word。 “Couple,” has a nice assonant sound so add in a similar assonant sound。 (Replace with “spoke。”) Last sentence uses unnecessary long phrases that can be said succinctly。 (Replace “need to know everything” with a noun “insight。”)My revised writing:On a drive out to the point, Billy Hotchkiss reached Stone twins’ estate and made port at the side of the road。 “Just a minute,” he spoke to the couple seated in the car。 “I want to find out what happened。” Billy had to ween his journalistic insight and report it to the island community。 。。。more

Escape fiction at its best。 This time there are two twins who are just plain evil threatening Stone, his guests, and multiple sexual partners。

One of his better books。 Not overdone on the sex for a change。 The story really kept me engaged。

Double Jeopardy This a great book, I couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend this book!! I love Stuart woods novels, his books are always riveting!

Two for one bulletThe story centered a round two twin brothers that murder and rape victims。 Served some time in prison but get a pardon from the governor because the governor was a college friend of their dad。 Just read the book it was another typical Stone Barrington escapade。

Just like Stuart woods to give me a delightful break from the world around me。 Pure fantasy but a pleasure to read。 Characters are rich in so many ways and yet they are fun to follow。 He can never write enough books to please me, each is a trip down some odd escapist lane and seem to have no emotional downside for me。 I hate the bad guys and love the good guys。

Stone has two relatives (identical twins) that were in prison for killing their father and mother but have just been pardoned and released。 Now they are back in Maine and Stone wants to see them back in prison。 They had also been accused of raping and killing several women but the authorities can't get enough evidence to prove it。 The plot circles around these twins who are really bad and the house guests that Stone has at his home in Maine。 I thought the whole thing was pretty far fetched and u Stone has two relatives (identical twins) that were in prison for killing their father and mother but have just been pardoned and released。 Now they are back in Maine and Stone wants to see them back in prison。 They had also been accused of raping and killing several women but the authorities can't get enough evidence to prove it。 The plot circles around these twins who are really bad and the house guests that Stone has at his home in Maine。 I thought the whole thing was pretty far fetched and unbelievable。 。。。more

Typical Stone Barrington—intrigue, romance, bit of humor。 Always a fun, quick read。 Waiting for #58; they seem to roll out every couple of months。

Best one in a long time!A fast, fun read without politics and drippy sex! A great read and a fun romp! More please before Stone gets to old!

Audio book。 Maybe it was the narrator, who sounded like a 70+ man, and thus all the characters seemed to be of advanced age。 Maybe it was the hole-filled plot, with its not-even-believable-for-fiction scenarios。 Twins convicted of murdering their parents, sentenced to life in prison, pardoned by Maine's governor, and given law professor jobs at Yale? Ok, after a string of books that barely kept my interest, I gobbled this book down。 I will admit that it has a lot of flaws。 Less unrealistic globe trotting, with many of his usual Maine side kicks so we don't need much on the stock characters。 The bad is two new characters are introduced and one instantly falls into a sexual relationship with Stone and the other gets her life instantly sorted out by him。 Most of this sorting is off page and we're just supposed to accept it (by this point if you Ok, after a string of books that barely kept my interest, I gobbled this book down。 I will admit that it has a lot of flaws。 Less unrealistic globe trotting, with many of his usual Maine side kicks so we don't need much on the stock characters。 The bad is two new characters are introduced and one instantly falls into a sexual relationship with Stone and the other gets her life instantly sorted out by him。 Most of this sorting is off page and we're just supposed to accept it (by this point if you don't, why are you reading this series??)We've got the bad guys who get also no page time which is occurring more and more in this series。 Any bad guy could be inserted into the story given the minimal attention and development。 It's all about Stone traveling, his homes, food, sex and his friends and acquaintances shooting the breeze (and other things)。More would have been nice and a welcome surprise, but understanding what I was going to get and that I got it, makes me give this a like rating。As always, glad I got this from the library cause it's sure not worth rereading when I'm sure there are another two mediocre Barrington books in the pipeline。 。。。more
